Foundations and principles of alignment and balance taught by Birgit Reimer in the Iyengar methodology/tradition. Iyengar yoga is named by the late B.K.S. Iyengar. His teachings are based on the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali and is focused on the dedicated practice with awareness and deep self studies, known as Sadhana. 3 important parts of his teachings: precision, alignment, sequencing.
Alignment and symmetry lead to:
- Better balance
- Good posture
- Coordination of muscles, bones, joints
- Contribute to mental clarity and focus
Better balance leads to:
- Awareness of even weight distribution
- A state of equilibrium and poise
- Reduces risk of falling
- Reaction time improvement
- Better decision making
We will practice mainly standing poses with awareness on breath, core and drishti (the gaze, the focus of the eyes on a certain point). All levels of students are welcome. We will use props such as chairs, the wall, blocks and belts.
