Yoga is a journey – not a destination, so there is no perfect place to get to. It is a good idea to start with something that is not overwhelming, thus allowing your body to settle into the process of yoga. The beginner level is obviously for those who have never done yoga but at the same time sometime advanced yogis need to slow down and get the benefit of such classes.

Below we have categorized classes based on the level of experience but please do read about all our classes before deciding on what you would like to try. The only advice we have for you is to not to try a Flow class if you are just starting into yoga.

We offer a large variety of classes for people of all ages with different fitness levels. If you are new to yoga then we recommend you start with Yoga Basics, Gentle, Yin and Restoratives. You can slowly build your self up to Hatha, Yoga Tone and Flow. Remember Yoga Tone and Flow are the most challenging classes. Please read the class descriptions to get a better idea.

Beginner

These classes are recommended for those who are new to yoga, are looking for some relaxed time, and/or want a gentle stretch. Any of the intermediate or advanced students can also take these classes.

Restorative Yoga is a practice for everyone. All poses are done on the floor and held for 5-15 minutes with the support of props to ensure deep relaxation. It is perfect for those with injuries, arthritis, inflammation, and anxiety. It is equally beneficial for those who need to de-stress and unwind from life’s hectic pace. While resting in a pose and breathing, the sympathetic nervous systems which governs the “fight or flight“ reaction to stress is pacified so that “rest and rejuvenation” can happen.

This class is a blend of gentle yoga postures combined with Yin and Restorative. It is a perfect way to unwind your nervous system for optimal health. Suitable for beginners and anyone wanting to decompress, relax and restore balance.

Recommended for all levels.

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much.

This can be done by both beginners and experienced yogis.

Chair Yoga is a combination of dynamic, breath centered movement and alignment based class.
If you are experienced, join us to find your edge for strength and flexibility.
Those new to yoga will benefit from a personalized approach with modifications given for balance, injury and health conditions.
For those who need help, standing and balancing poses are enhanced and aligned with the use of the chair. Even Sun Salutations and Vinyasa flows can be practiced from a chair.

Chair Yoga is recommended for those with arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer recovery, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, post-op rehabilitation, and others with limited mobility.

This class combines joint mobility, breath, core and posture work using asanas and vinyasa to build strength, increase flexibility, and improve balance.

Recommended for all levels.

This class is for all level practitioners who are curious and inspired to create a seated meditation practice. Bree will help you find your seat as a meditator through guidance and freedom. She will provide tools for contemplation in each class to help students keep their focus inward. The solel purpose of this class is to hold sacred space for students as they show up for themselves.
Yoga Align is a Hatha based class. The theme of this class is “less is more”. A few poses when done with proper alignment and held for longer periods of time can work the body, mind and breath efficiently. The class focuses on either a body part or a pose and always uses props. You are bound to go out a little more aligned!
This class uses an accelerated technique to help all students and especially athletes (e.g runners, cyclists, CrossFitters) improve their flexibility, balance, joint mobility & breath awareness. It is an active stretching yoga class that targets primary muscle groups around the hips/hamstrings and shoulders/upper back. I use a unique isometric/resistance stretching principle. With this method you contract muscles that you are lengthening simultaneously which accelerates results. Most poses are done on the floor and held for a minimum of 1-2 minutes.. This class is great for anyone who experiences stiffness or fatigue within areas of their body.

Intermediate + all Beginners classes

These classes are recommended for those who have done little yoga or have been working out. A good place to start before moving into the advanced level. These classes have a challenge you will enjoy and also time for relaxation. You can also take any of the beginners classes.

This sequence involves stretching, static postures, balance poses, back bends and relaxation.

This class has been specifically developed by Almaden Yoga instructors. Detoxification is a process of eliminating toxins from the body. Heat and therefore sweating is one way for the body to eliminate waste and is a sign of purification. Twists and back bends gently and smoothly squeeze and massage internal organs enhancing digestion and elimination. Deep breathing helps the lungs flush toxins from the body. Breathing exercises serve to transport oxygen to all the cells in the body to promote cell detoxification.

This class is inspired by various movements and healing practices that all encourage the same thing: connection. Movement will be both on and off of the mat and really encourage each student to get embodied. Movement will be playful, challenging, and confronting. Once the movement portion has come to a close, you will find your seat for silent meditation. You will be then guided through pranayama that will eventually turn into silence and stillness. This is where you get to observe everything that is alive and present for you. Students will then be guided out of seated meditation and into a resting pose of choice to close the practice.

The exercises in mat Pilates focus on strengthening the muscles of the hips, back, abdomen, and glutes or what is known in Pilates as the powerhouse. The exercises look simple but require stabilization of the torso and focused effort to keep the abdominals contracted and working throughout the exercises. All levels are welcome though the class level will progress with time.

Advanced + All Beginner & Intermediate classes

Almaden Yoga recommends these classes to those who want to go beyond their edge and have some fun. Expect challenge in these classes.
