Yoga is a journey and therefore there is no perfect place to get to. Every yoga class is an opportunity to connect with yourself in the present moment. There is no past nor a future, only the here and the now.

It is a good idea to start with something that is not overwhelming, thus allowing your body to settle into the process of yoga. The beginner level is obviously for those who have never done yoga but at the same time sometimes advanced yogis need to slow down and get the benefit of such classes. Always listen to your body and respect any injuries your may have.

Below we have categorized classes based on the level of experience but please do read about all our classes before deciding on what you would like to try. The only advice we have for you is to not to try a flow and yoga tone class if you are just starting into yoga or have injuries.

Beginner

These classes are recommended for those who are new to yoga, are looking for some relaxed time, and/or want a gentle stretch. Any of the intermediate or advanced students can also take these classes.

Restorative Yoga is a practice for everyone. All poses are done on the floor and held for 5-15 minutes with the support of props to ensure deep relaxation. It is perfect for those with injuries, arthritis, inflammation, and anxiety. It is equally beneficial for those who need to de-stress and unwind from life’s hectic pace. While resting in a pose and breathing, the sympathetic nervous systems which governs the “fight or flight“ reaction to stress is pacified so that “rest and rejuvenation” can happen.

This class is a blend of gentle yoga postures combined with Yin and Restorative. It is a perfect way to unwind your nervous system for optimal health. Suitable for beginners and anyone wanting to decompress, relax and restore balance.

Recommended for all levels.

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much.

This can be done by both beginners and experienced yogis.

This class combines joint mobility, breath, core and posture work using asanas and vinyasa to build strength, increase flexibility, and improve balance.

Recommended for all levels.

This class uses an accelerated technique to help all students and especially athletes (e.g runners, cyclists, CrossFitters) improve their flexibility, balance, joint mobility & breath awareness. It is an active stretching yoga class that targets primary muscle groups around the hips/hamstrings and shoulders/upper back. I use a unique isometric/resistance stretching principle. With this method you contract muscles that you are lengthening simultaneously which accelerates results. Most poses are done on the floor and held for a minimum of 1-2 minutes.. This class is great for anyone who experiences stiffness or fatigue within areas of their body.
Yoga Align is a Hatha based class. The theme of this class is “less is more”. A few poses when done with proper alignment and held for longer periods of time can work the body, mind and breath efficiently. The class focuses on either a body part or a pose and always uses props. You are bound to go out a little more aligned!

Intermediate + all Beginners classes

These classes are recommended for those who have done little yoga or have been working out. A good place to start before moving into the advanced level. These classes have a challenge you will enjoy and also time for relaxation. You can also take any of the beginners classes.

This class will have a few Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskars) to warm up leading into yoga poses with long holds. The focus of this class is strength, balance and stretch. The class will involve standing, seated, back bends and relaxation.

Recommended for all levels.

This class has been specifically developed by Almaden Yoga instructors. Detoxification is a process of eliminating toxins from the body. Heat and therefore sweating is one way for the body to eliminate waste and is a sign of purification. Twists and back bends gently and smoothly squeeze and massage internal organs enhancing digestion and elimination. Deep breathing helps the lungs flush toxins from the body. Breathing exercises serve to transport oxygen to all the cells in the body to promote cell detoxification.

Recommended for all levels.

Advanced + All Beginner & Intermediate classes

Almaden Yoga recommends these classes to those who want to go beyond their edge and have some fun. Expect challenge in these classes.

Also known as Vinyasa Flow. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” This style allows for a lot of variety, but will certainly include Sun Salutations.

This class while challenging provides options and modifications for both beginners and advanced students.
